Since Marc had been out of town all week, he decided we would take a day trip on Saturday. We had made a mental list of day trips we wanted to take now that we were living in California. There are so many beautiful, exciting places to see that are only an hour or so away from San Francisco. We have been wanting to drive south of the city to Carmel, but then we remembered that the U.S. Open is going on right now - and that area wouldn't exactly be free of crowds. So we decided to go to Napa Valley. We got up early and headed out of the city. We planned to stop for breakfast in the town of Napa, CA and then drive up through the valley. There weren't many breakfast places open for us early birds, but we found a great place that had a yummy breakfast!
Once we had breakfast, we headed to Oakville, CA to stop at one of the larger wineries in the area. Most of the wineries allow passersby to come in and walk around the main grounds for little or no charge. I had always heard how beautiful the valley was and how unique each winery was - but I was amazed at the beauty of this area! Marc and I enjoyed walking around and taking some pictures. The weather was absolutely perfect too, so it was a joy to be outside enjoying nature.
We received a suggestion from a local about a great lunch place. You can read more about it here. We had a very delicious lunch and were ready to see more of the beautiful valley.
After lunch we headed north through St. Helena and then cut over to come back on the east side of the valley. The east side is less populated, which made for more beautiful scenery.
We had such a fun day! We rounded out the evening with a little furniture shopping and a nice dinner at The Republic - a place near our home. We are really looking forward to more day trips together in the future!

Life is beauty, admire it.
Life is a dream, realize it.
Life is a challenge, meet it.
Life is a duty, complete it.
Life is a game, play it.
Life is a promise, fulfill it.
Life is sorrow, overcome it.
Life is a song, sing it.
Life is a struggle, accept it.
Life is a tragedy, confront it.
Life is an adventure, dare it.
Life is luck, make it.
Life is too precious, do not destroy it.
Life is life, fight for it."
