I've never had this problem before.
It seems ironic that I would have this issue in CA and never in SC.
Let's look closer.
I understand - they were in my house, not yours. Remember?
So here's what happened. I bought some beautiful strawberries and apples from our market. I left the apples in a glass bowl on my kitchen table because I read somewhere that if you leave fruit instead of flowers on your table you'll be skinnier.
I really read...or heard that. Really.
A few days later I noticed these little gnat things flying around in my kitchen. I figured that I had just left the windows open too long. We don't have air conditioning, you see, so when it's hot - and it had been - you just open your windows. Quite pleasant.
We had a couple cool days, and less window-opening, and I noticed that there weren't fewer bugs, there were more. I had killed many of them already. What's going on?
I did some Googling, and realized they were fruit flies. Most likely they had been in my beautiful apples. They have a ten-day lifespan and reproduce quickly (oh really?). The website suggested I mix dish soap in a glass with white wine, or apple cider/balsamic vinegar. I did and this is what greeted me the next morning.
There it is: I said it - I had flies in my home.
