At the recent Men's Retreat our church shared with Wellspring in the Russian River Valley, they had a soccer match. Christ Church lost by one, and promised a rematch soon. So yesterday the guys and their wives and other supporters made the drive to the East Bay to participate in and watch the game.
This was a great idea. A nice soccer match in the afternoon and a few hours' fellowship for all of us. We didn't know Northern California was going to have a heat wave! It was 98 degrees when the game started - whew!
Now, my readers in South Carolina may scoff at my wimpyness. But you have to remember that we are the soft city kids that are used to temperatures that don't get above 70 most of the time. So when we get to watch the temperature gauge rise from 67 to 98 in a matter of 40 miles...it's a big deal!
But we went anyway.
Because our men love soccer.
And we love our men.
